He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade in 1983. He began his career as a director in the mid-1980s, directing several short films and documentaries. In 1991, Antonijevic directed his first feature film, The Wounds, which was a critical and commercial success. The film won several awards, including the Golden Arena for Best Film at the Pula Film Festival.
