Pete Peterson was born on 20 January, 1914 in Kearney, NE. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1936. He then went on to earn a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago in 1938. Peterson served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After the war, he worked in the private sector, eventually becoming the president of Bell & Howell Corporation in 1961. In 1971, President Richard Nixon appointed Peterson as the United States Secretary of Commerce. He served in this position until 1973, when he resigned to become the chairman of Lehman Brothers. He served in this position until 1977. Peterson has been a member of numerous boards of directors, including the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the National Endowment for Democracy. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Brookings Institution. Peterson is married to Wilbur Peterson, and they have two children. As of 2021, Pete Peterson's net worth is estimated to be around $100 million.
