Olympia Dukakis is an American actress and producer. She is best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in the 1987 film Moonstruck, as well as her roles in Steel Magnolias, Look Who's Talking, and Dad. Dukakis was born on June 20, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Greek immigrants Constantine S. Dukakis and Alexandra Christos Dukakis. She attended Boston University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education and Theater Arts. She then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Dukakis began her acting career in the late 1950s, appearing in regional theater productions. She made her Broadway debut in 1965 in the play The Aspern Papers. She went on to appear in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, including the Tony Award-winning play Social Security. In 1987, Dukakis won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Moonstruck. She has also been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a BAFTA Award. Olympia was seen on the New York stage in the Roundabout Theatre's production of "The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore" (2011), in San Francisco in A. C. T.
