Nurul Islam Omar is a Bangladeshi politician who is currently serving as the Minister of Home Affairs in the Government of Bangladesh. He was born on 13 January 1955 in Bogra District, Bangladesh. He is a member of the Bangladesh Awami League and has been a Member of Parliament since 1991. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dhaka in 1976 and his Master of Arts degree from the same university in 1978. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Dhaka. He has held various positions in the government, including Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Education, Minister of Social Welfare, Minister of Information, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Minister of Public Administration. He is married to Dr. Farida Islam and has two sons and a daughter. He is an avid reader and enjoys playing golf. He is also a member of the Bangladesh Golf Association.
