Nick Hornby is an English novelist, essayist, lyricist, and screenwriter. He was born on 11 May, 1980 in London, United Kingdom. He is best known for his novels High Fidelity, About a Boy, and A Long Way Down, as well as for his non-fiction works Fever Pitch and 31 Songs. Hornby attended Maidenhead Grammar School and then studied English at Jesus College, Cambridge. After graduating, he worked as a teacher in London for two years before becoming a full-time writer. Hornby's first novel, High Fidelity, was published in 1995 and was adapted into a film starring John Cusack in 2000. His second novel, About a Boy, was published in 1998 and was adapted into a film starring Hugh Grant in 2002. His third novel, A Long Way Down, was published in 2005 and was adapted into a film starring Pierce Brosnan in 2014. Hornby has also written several non-fiction works, including Fever Pitch, a memoir about his lifelong obsession with football, and 31 Songs, a collection of essays about music. He has also written lyrics for several songs, including "The Ballad of El Goodo" by Big Star and "The Boy with the Arab Strap" by Belle and Sebastian. Hornby has won numerous awards for his writing, including the W.H. Smith Literary Award, the E.M. Forster Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Nick Hornby’s largest sculpture to date titled Twofold was commissioned by Harlow Art Trust. It is the 100th piece in Harlow’s public sculpture collection which includes works by Auguste Rodin, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, and Elizabeth Frink, among many others, so is a fitting environment for an artist whose subject is frequently the canon and its construction. For this commission, Hornby has crossed one of the most canonic of figurative sculptures, Michelangelo’s David, with a curving line from a 1925 Kandinsky drawing. In one rotation, David is visible; in another, it is Kandinsky’s abstract line.
