Michael Stone is an author and professor emeritus of psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He was born on October 27, 1933 in Toronto, Canada. He is best known for his work in the field of psychotherapy and his books on Buddhism and psychotherapy. Stone received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1959 and completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Toronto in 1964. He then went on to become a professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto, where he taught for over 30 years. Stone has written numerous books on psychotherapy, Buddhism, and the integration of the two. His books include The Inner World of Choice, The Healing Power of Mind, and The Practice of Zen Meditation. He has also written several books on the integration of psychotherapy and Buddhism, including The Buddha and the Terrorist and The Psychology of Awakening. Stone is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is also a recipient of the Order of Canada.
