Michael Ansara was an American actor of Syrian descent. He was best known for his roles as Cochise in the 1950s television series Broken Arrow, as Kang in the 1960s Star Trek television series, and as Mr. Freeze in the 1960s Batman television series. Ansara was born in Syria in 1922 and moved to the United States with his family when he was two years old. He attended Los Angeles City College and the Pasadena Playhouse before being signed to a contract with 20th Century Fox in 1947. Ansara appeared in numerous films and television series throughout his career, including The Robe (1953), The Ten Commandments (1956), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1966). He also appeared in the original Star Trek series, playing the Klingon commander Kang in three episodes. Ansara was married three times, first to actress Jean Byron, then to actress Beverly Kushida, and finally to actress Barbara Eden. He died in 2013 at the age of 91.

A stint at the Pasadena Playhouse (where fellow students included Charles Bronson, Carolyn Jones and Aaron Spelling) led to roles on stage and in films; the starring role (as Cochise) on the popular television series Broken Arrow (1956) elevated Ansara to stardom. During the series' run, he met actress Barbara Eden on a date arranged by the 20th Century-Fox publicity department; the two later married.
