Matthew 'Stymie' Beard was an American actor and comedian best known for his role as Stymie in the Our Gang short films of the 1930s. He was born on January 1, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. Beard began his career in the Our Gang series at the age of five, and appeared in over forty shorts between 1930 and 1935. He was the oldest of the original "Little Rascals" and was known for his signature line, "O-tay!" He also appeared in several feature films, including The Little Colonel (1935) and The Littlest Rebel (1935). Beard left the Our Gang series in 1935 and went on to appear in several other films, including The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1936) and The Big Broadcast of 1937 (1937). He also appeared in the television series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1954). Beard retired from acting in the late 1950s and worked as a janitor at a Los Angeles school. He died on January 8, 1981 at the age of 56.
