She has appeared in numerous Broadway shows, including the original productions of A Chorus Line, 42nd Street, and On the Town. She has also appeared in the films The Producers, The First Wives Club, and The Birdcage. Testa was born on June 4, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied acting and singing. She made her Broadway debut in the original production of A Chorus Line in 1975. Testa has been nominated for two Tony Awards, for her performances in On the Town and 42nd Street. She has also been nominated for two Drama Desk Awards, for her performances in On the Town and Xanadu. Testa is married to actor and director Michael Rupert. They have two children.

She also appeared in such films as The Business of Strangers (2001), Stay (2005), Eat Pray Love (2010), The Bounty Hunter (2010) and the TV series Law & Order, Whoopi's Littleburg, 2 Broke Girls, Smash, White Collar, Cosby, Sex and the City, and Life on Mars.
