In the process he became manager Paul Jewell's eighth signing of the season. Albrechtsen made his debut for Derby in a 1–0 home defeat to Doncaster Rovers on the opening day of the 2008–09 season, and in September scored his first goal for the club, against Cardiff City and netted his second in the next match, a 2–0 win at Q.P.R..
