Mark Snow is an American composer and musician best known for his work on the television series The X-Files. He has composed music for over 100 television series and films, including Smallville, Millennium, La Femme Nikita, and The Dead Zone. He has also composed music for video games, including the Medal of Honor series. Snow was born in Brooklyn, New York, and began playing the piano at the age of five. He studied music at the High School of Music and Art in New York City and at the Juilliard School of Music. He then went on to study composition and orchestration at the Manhattan School of Music. Snow has won two Emmy Awards for his work on The X-Files, and has been nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on the soundtrack for the film The X-Files: Fight the Future. He has also been nominated for a Saturn Award for his work on the television series Smallville.

1993

For The X-Files (1993) soundtrack release in 1996 ("Songs in the Key of X"), Mark Snow created an extended version of the main theme. It was released in Europe as a single (which was rather successful) with an accompanying music video. For unknown reasons, this video was not included as an extra feature on any of the video releases or the DVD season sets.

1975

Mark's musical composition career began in 1975 with the TV series, Starsky and Hutch (1975), and has taken off since then.

1974

Mark Snow became a good friend with Michael Kamen while they were studying music at New York's Art and Music High School. After graduation, they became roommates at Juilliard (an elite music school). After studying at Juilliard, he became very fond of pop music. He, Michael Kamen and 3 others formed the New York Rock'n'Roll ensemble. The band was signed to Atlantic Records and Mark toured and recorded with them for 5 years. His interest then turned in writing film and television scores. He began to write and relocated to Los Angeles in 1974.
