Margaret Hamilton is best known for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. She began her career as a stage actress in the 1920s, and made her film debut in 1932. She went on to appear in over 50 films, including The Women (1939), The Little Foxes (1941), and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947). In addition to her acting career, Hamilton was also a successful businesswoman. She founded the Margaret Hamilton School of Acting in New York City in the 1950s, and was a vocal advocate for the rights of actors. In her later years, Hamilton continued to appear in films and television shows, and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She died in 1985 at the age of 82.
