Marcos Salas Contreras is a Mexican politician who has served in various positions in the Mexican government. He was born on April 25, 1955 in Veracruz, Mexico. He is currently a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He studied law at the Universidad Veracruzana and obtained a master's degree in public administration from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He began his political career in the 1980s, when he was appointed as the Secretary of the Interior of the State of Veracruz. He then served as the Secretary of the Interior of Mexico from 1994 to 2000. In 2000, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, representing the PRI. He was re-elected in 2003 and 2006. In 2009, he was elected to the Senate of Mexico, representing the PRI. In 2012, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Interior of Mexico, a position he held until 2018.
