Luis Bacalov is an Argentine composer and conductor who has composed music for over 100 films and television series. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning score for the 1996 film Il Postino. He has also composed music for films such as The Great Silence, Django, and The Gospel According to St. Matthew. Bacalov was born in San Martín, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 30 August 1933. He studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and later at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He began his career as a composer in the early 1960s, writing music for films such as The Great Silence and Django. In 1996, Bacalov won an Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score for his work on the film Il Postino. He has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for his work on the film. Bacalov has also composed music for television series such as The Sopranos, Rome, and The Borgias. He has also composed music for the video game series Grand Theft Auto. Bacalov has been married twice and has two children. He currently resides in Rome, Italy.
