Lucien Neuwirth is a French politician who served as a member of the National Assembly from 1956 to 1973 and as a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1989. He was born on 18 May 1924 in Saint-Étienne, France. Neuwirth was a member of the Radical Party and was a strong advocate for the legalization of contraception and abortion. He was the author of the 1967 Neuwirth Law, which legalized contraception in France. He was also a strong advocate for the rights of women and minorities. Neuwirth was a member of the French delegation to the United Nations from 1967 to 1973. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1989. Neuwirth was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1989. He died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 96.
