Lim then contested in the 2011 General Elections as part of a five-member PAP team for the Nee Soon GRC. The team, then led by the Minister for Law K. Shanmugam, won over 58% of the votes. Lim was appointed to the Public Petitions Committee. Lim was also appointed as a member of the Finance and Trade & Industry Government Parliamentary Committee. Subsequently, Lim became Chairman of the Defence and Foreign Affairs Government Parliamentary Committee.
Lim was the Deputy Director of the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute from 2007 to 2009. He was also a visiting consultant to the Singapore National Eye Centre from 2006 to 2017 and Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2004 to 2019.
Lim Wee Kiak, PBM (simplified Chinese: 林伟杰; traditional Chinese: 林偉傑; pinyin: lín wěijié; born 1968), is a Singaporean politician. A member of the country's governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 6 May 2006. He is currently the MP for Sembawang GRC (Canberra), grassroots adviser to the Canberra Grassroots, and the Vice Chairman of Sembawang Town Council. Lim also sits on the Public Accounts Committee in the Parliament of Singapore. Lim co-founded and is currently the group Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Eye Centre.
Lim contested in the 2006 General Elections as part of a six-member People's Action Party (PAP) team for the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC). The team then led by Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan, won over 76% of the votes. Lim was appointed to the Public Accounts Committee and Chairman for the Transport Government Parliamentary Committee.
Lim also did a 1-year clinical and research fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Inflammation at the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health, United States in 2003.
Subsequently, Lim completed his postgraduate education in Ophthalmology (M Med) at the National University of Singapore's Yong Yoo Lin School of Medicine, in 1998. He went on to pursue two specialist postgraduate qualifications in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons (Ophth) in Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom.
Lim has been an ophthalmologist since 1998 and provides specialised eye care for patients with common ophthalmological conditions such as cataract and short-sightedness and sub-specialist eye care for patients with ocular inflammation at his clinics at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, and Parkway East Hospitals.
Lim served in the Singapore Armed Forces from 1995 to 2003 as a Medical Officer and rose to the rank of Major. He served as team leader of the Singaporean medical team attached to the United Nations Hospital in East Timor.
Lim did his primary school education in Sembawang School,his secondary school education in The Chinese High School and junior college education at Hwa Chong Junior College. Lim went on to complete his MBBS at National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 1992. Lim did his housemanship and served as a Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health between 1992 and 1994. Lim then served the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) as a medical officer in 1994 and signed on to be a regular with the SAF.
