He attended the University of Maryland, where he played college baseball for the Terrapins. Banks was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Padres in 2006, and also played for the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays. Banks has a career record of 44-50 with a 4.45 ERA in 8 seasons. 2012

On February 28, 2012, Banks signed a major league contract with the Baltimore Orioles. Banks, who also pitched for the Long Island Ducks last year, has Gary Sheffield for an agent. On March 31, 2012 he was released by the Orioles. He has two daughters Lola, and Olivia both very young, he is married to Casey Banks.

2011

On January 31, 2011, Banks signed a major league contract with the San Francisco Giants. He was released during the season.

2010

On January 4, 2010, Banks signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros and got an invitation to spring training. He appeared in 27 games for the Round Rock Express and one game for the Astros before becoming a free agent at the end of the season.

He was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft. Banks Major League debut in 2007 with the Blue Jays. On April 23, 2008, Banks was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres.
