He is best known for his work on films such as Volver (2006), All About My Mother (1999), and The Skin I Live In (2011). He has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work on All About My Mother and Volver. Alcaine was born in Tangier, Morocco, on December 26, 1938. He began his career in the 1960s, working as a camera assistant on Spanish films. He eventually became a cinematographer in the 1970s, working on films such as The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) and The Holy Innocents (1984). In the 1990s, Alcaine began working with director Pedro Almodóvar, shooting films such as All About My Mother, Talk to Her (2002), and Volver. He has also worked with other prominent directors such as Guillermo del Toro, shooting The Devil's Backbone (2001) and Pan's Labyrinth (2006). Alcaine has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work on All About My Mother and Volver.
