Johnny Bench is a former professional baseball player who played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1967 to 1983. He was a 14-time All-Star, two-time National League MVP, and a 10-time Gold Glove Award winner. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989. Bench is considered one of the greatest catchers of all time. He was known for his powerful throwing arm and his ability to hit for power and average. He was also known for his leadership and his ability to handle pitchers. Bench was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and attended Binger High School. He was signed by the Reds in 1965 and made his major league debut in 1967. He quickly established himself as one of the best catchers in the game, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1968. He is also involved in various charitable organizations, including the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund, which provides college scholarships to students in Oklahoma.
