He was born in San Antonio, Texas, and began his career in the 1930s, appearing in films such as The Big Broadcast of 1936 and The Big Broadcast of 1937. He also appeared in the musicals The King and I and South Pacific. Armstrong was also a prolific singer, recording several albums and singles throughout his career. He was a regular on the television show The Lawrence Welk Show, and was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Armstrong died in 2004 at the age of 89. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.
