Joe Frazier was an American professional boxer who competed from 1965 to 1981. He is best known for his three epic fights with Muhammad Ali, which are widely regarded as some of the greatest boxing matches of all time. Frazier won the world heavyweight championship in 1970 and held it until 1973. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. Frazier was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, on January 12, 1944. He began boxing at the age of 15 and won the 1964 Olympic gold medal in the heavyweight division. He turned professional in 1965 and won his first 24 fights, including a victory over Buster Mathis to win the world heavyweight title in 1970. Frazier's most famous fights were his three bouts with Muhammad Ali. The first fight, dubbed the "Fight of the Century," took place in 1971 and was won by Frazier. The second fight, the "Thrilla in Manila," was won by Ali in 1975. The third fight, the "Drama in the Bahamas," was won by Ali in 1976. Frazier retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 32 wins (27 by knockout) and 4 losses. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He died in 2011 at the age of 67.
