Jhamak Ghimire is a Nepali writer, columnist, and poet. She is best known for her autobiography, Jhamak Ghimire: A Blind Girl's Journey, which was the first book written by a blind Nepali woman. She has also written several books of poetry, short stories, and essays. Ghimire was born in Dhankuta, Nepal, and lost her sight at the age of five due to an illness. She was educated at the National Association for the Blind in Kathmandu, and later attended the University of Delhi, where she earned a degree in English literature. Ghimire has been a columnist for the Nepali Times since 2003, and has written for various other publications. She has also been a guest lecturer at various universities in Nepal and abroad. Ghimire has received numerous awards for her work, including the Madan Puraskar, Nepal's highest literary award, in 2008. She was also awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2020. Ghimire is currently living in Kathmandu, Nepal, and is married to a fellow writer.
