Igor Gruppman was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 4 July 1956. He began studying the violin at the age of five, and by the age of nine, he was already performing as a soloist with the Kyiv Philharmonic Orchestra. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1979, and then went on to become the Concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985. In addition to his work with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Gruppman has also served as the Conductor of the Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, since 2002. He has also performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Gruppman has also been a professor of violin at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague since 1997. He has also served as a jury member for numerous international competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and the Paganini Competition in Genoa. Gruppman has been awarded numerous honors for his work, including the Order of the Crown of Belgium, the Order of the Netherlands Lion, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Dutch Music Prize.
