Ian Abercrombie was an English-born American actor. He was born on 11 September 1934 in Grays, Essex, England. He was best known for his roles in films such as Army of Darkness, The Lost Boys, and The Addams Family. He also had a recurring role in the television series Seinfeld as the eccentric butler, Mr. Pitt. Abercrombie began his career in the theater, appearing in productions of plays such as The Importance of Being Earnest and The Taming of the Shrew. He made his film debut in the 1965 film The Loved One. He went on to appear in numerous films and television shows throughout his career. Abercrombie was married to actress Cathleen Nesbitt from 1956 until her death in 1982. He was also in a long-term relationship with actress and singer Kaye Ballard from 1983 until his death in 2012. Abercrombie died on 26 January 2012 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 77. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated to be around $2 million.

Ian Abercrombie began his theatrical career as a lad during the Blitz in World War II. After his footwork years during which he earned Bronze, Silver and Gold medals in dance for the stage, he performed in London, Holland, Ireland, and Scotland. He made his American stage debut in 1955 in a production of "Stalag 17" with Jason Robards and Jules Munshin. Many plays in summer stock, regional and off-Broadway followed in a variety of theatrical offerings, from revues to Shakespeare. During a particularly low period, he worked as a magician's assistant for $10 per performance.
