Hannu-Pekka "HP" Parviainen is a Finnish snowboarder who has been competing since the late 1990s. He has won several medals in the World Cup and World Championships, including a gold medal in the halfpipe at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. He is also a four-time FIS World Cup champion in halfpipe. Parviainen began snowboarding at the age of 12 and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He won his first World Cup medal in 2001 and his first World Championship medal in 2003. He went on to win a total of five World Cup medals and four World Championship medals. In 2006, Parviainen won the gold medal in the halfpipe at the Winter Olympics in Turin, becoming the first Finn to win an Olympic gold medal in snowboarding. He also won the FIS World Cup title in halfpipe that same year. Parviainen has since retired from competitive snowboarding and is now a coach and mentor for young snowboarders. He is also an ambassador for the sport, promoting snowboarding in Finland and around the world.
