Gonzalo Arijon is a Uruguayan film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1956. He is best known for his films "The Official Story" (1985) and "The Truce" (1996). Arijon studied film at the National Film School in London, and has directed several feature films, documentaries, and television series. His films have been shown at numerous international film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, and Venice. Arijon has won numerous awards for his work, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival for "The Official Story" (1985), the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for "The Truce" (1996), and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film for "The Official Story" (1985). Arijon is currently the president of the Uruguayan Film Institute, and is a professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
