Giorgio Moroder is an Italian composer, songwriter, and record producer. He is widely credited with pioneering the electronic dance music genre. He is also known for his work in the disco, synth-pop, and new wave genres. He has won three Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, and four Grammy Awards. Giorgio Moroder was born on April 26, 1940, in Urtijëi, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy. He began his career as a session musician in the 1960s, playing on a number of Italian pop records. In 1969, he released his first solo album, Son of My Father. He went on to produce a number of successful albums, including From Here to Eternity (1977), E=MC2 (1979), and Cat People (1982). In the 1980s, Moroder began to focus on electronic music, producing a number of influential albums and singles, including Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" (1977) and Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" (1986). He also composed the soundtracks for a number of films, including Midnight Express (1978), Flashdance (1983), and Top Gun (1986). In recent years, Moroder has continued to produce and compose music, collaborating with a number of artists, including Daft Punk, Kylie Minogue, and Britney Spears. He was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
