Gil Noble was an American television journalist, producer, and director. He was best known for hosting the weekly public affairs program Like It Is on WABC-TV in New York City from 1968 to 2011. He was also the founder and president of Gil Noble Productions, Inc., a television production company. Noble was born in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA on February 22, 1932. He attended the City College of New York, where he earned a degree in journalism. He began his career in television in the 1950s, working as a news writer and producer for WLIB-TV in New York City. In 1968, Noble began hosting Like It Is, a weekly public affairs program on WABC-TV in New York City. The show featured interviews with prominent African-American figures, including politicians, activists, and entertainers. The show ran for 43 years, until Noble's retirement in 2011. In addition to his work on Like It Is, Noble was the founder and president of Gil Noble Productions, Inc., a television production company. He produced and directed several documentaries, including The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution (2015) and The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross (2013). Noble was the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Association of Black Journalists' Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences' Governors Award, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Silver Circle Award. He died on April 5, 2012, at the age of 80.
