Georges Delnon is a Swiss theatre director, artistic director, and professor. He was born on 20 March 1958 in Zürich, Switzerland. He studied at the University of Zurich and the University of Basel, and received his PhD in theatre studies from the University of Basel in 1989. Delnon has been the artistic director of the Schauspielhaus Zürich since 2000, and has directed numerous plays and operas. He has also been a professor of theatre studies at the University of Zurich since 2003. Delnon has received numerous awards for his work, including the Swiss Grand Award for Theatre in 2006, the Swiss Theatre Prize in 2008, and the Swiss Culture Prize in 2011. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2012. As of 2021, Georges Delnon's net worth is estimated to be approximately $1 million.

2003 he was named honorary Professor of the University of Mainz and received the Order of Merit of Rhineland-Palatinate. Since 2002 Delnon is a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts [de] .

2002

As a professor, Delnon began at the Folkwang University of the Arts, moving on to working in Frankfurt, Montepulciano and Basel. In 2002 he received a professorship for scenic plays at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz. In the fall semester of 2014 he will be also working at the University of Zürich as a guest lecturer.

1996

As an artistic director Delnon's career began at the Theater Koblenz [de] (1996–1999), followed by the Staatstheater Mainz (until 2006) and the Theater Basel (until 2015), where he won the award Opera house of the year two times in a row (2009/2010). Since 2009 he is also the artistic director of the Schwetzingen Festival. In 2015 Delnon will start his job as the artistic director of the Hamburg State Opera.
