George Lucas is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, as well as the founder of Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic. He has been nominated for four Academy Awards and won seven Saturn Awards.

Lucas was born in Modesto, California, to Dorothy Ellinore Lucas and George Walton Lucas Sr. He attended Modesto Junior College before transferring to the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
Lucas began his career in the film industry in 1967, working as an assistant editor on the film “Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB”. He then wrote and directed his first feature film, “THX 1138”, in 1971. He followed this up with the highly successful “American Graffiti” in 1973.
In 1977, Lucas released the first installment of the Star Wars franchise, “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope”. The film was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. The success of the film spawned three sequels, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”.
In 2012, Lucas sold Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company for $4.06 billion.
In addition to his film career, Lucas is also an entrepreneur. He founded Lucasfilm in 1971, Industrial Light & Magic in 1975, and Skywalker Sound in 1983. He also founded the George Lucas Educational Foundation in 1991.

He decided to attend Modesto Junior College before enrolling in the University of Southern California film school. As a film student, he made several short films including Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB (1967) which won first prize at the 1967-68 National Student Film Festival. In 1967, he was awarded a scholarship by Warner Brothers to observe the making of Finian's Rainbow (1968) which was being directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
