He eventually became a cinematographer, working on films such as The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), and The Godfather Part III (1990). Polito was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on The Godfather Part II. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or a Special for his work on the television miniseries The Winds of War (1983). Polito passed away on 28 April, 2011 at the age of 92. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated to be around $2 million.
