Eric Go Yap is a Filipino politician who was born on 11 May, 1979 in Filipino. He is currently the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines. He is also the representative of the Lone District of Antique. Yap graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in Political Science. He then went on to pursue a law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University. Yap has been involved in politics since 2004, when he was elected as the Vice Mayor of San Jose, Antique. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2010. In 2013, he was elected as the Representative of the Lone District of Antique. Yap is married to Maria Lourdes Yap and they have two children. Yap is a member of the Liberal Party of the Philippines and is a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte. He is also a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.

2020

In January 2020, he was appointed as the Legislative Caretaker of the Lone District of Benguet.

Formerly the Chairperson of the Committee on Games and Amusements, Yap was appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations in March 2020. He is the first neophyte congressman and first partylist representative to lead the Committee on Appropriations, which tackles all matters directly and principally relating to the expenditures of the national government including payment of public indebtedness, creation or abolition and classification of positions in government, and the determination of salaries, allowances and benefits of government personnel.

On March 25, 2020, Yap initially confirmed that he tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) but turned out to be negative a result of an "encoding error". The lawmaker took the test on March 15 for he was exposed to several people and not for being symptomatic for the disease. During the eleven-day wait period for the test result he divulged that he still attended and visited governmental meetings, like on March 21 at the Malacañang Palace and on March 23 at the special session of the House of Representatives. Two days after the confirmation, on March 27, the RITM, who tested his results, have stated that Yap's result was actually negative but was listed initially as positive as a result of an "encoding error". The representative have accepted the apology of the research center.

2019

Yap was first elected into public office in 2019, together with Jocelyn Pua-Tulfo and Rowena Niña Taduran as representatives of the ACT-CIS Partylist for the 18th Congress of the Philippines. Garnering a historic vote of 2,651,987 votes, ACT-CIS Partylist was declared the number one partylist in the 2019 National Elections.
