Ehud Barak is an Israeli politician and former Prime Minister of Israel. He served as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2001 and as Minister of Defense from 2007 to 2013. He is a member of the Labor Party and was the leader of the Labor Party from 2007 to 2011. Barak was born in Kibbutz Mishmar Ha-Sharon in 1942. He joined the Israel Defense Forces in 1959 and served in the elite Sayeret Matkal special forces unit. He rose to the rank of Major General and was appointed Chief of Staff of the IDF in 1991. Barak entered politics in 1995 and was elected to the Knesset in 1996. He served as Minister of Internal Affairs from 1996 to 1999 and as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2001. He was defeated in the 2001 election and resigned from the Knesset in 2005. Barak returned to politics in 2007 and was appointed Minister of Defense. He served in this position until 2013. He was re-elected to the Knesset in 2013 and served as a member of the Knesset until 2019. As of 2021, Ehud Barak's net worth is estimated to be $10 million.
