Dorothy Barresi is an American poet and professor. She was born on November 13, 1957 in Buffalo, New York. She earned her B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1979 and her M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 1983. Barresi is the author of four collections of poetry: The Post-Rapture Diner (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1991), The Book of Orgasms (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1996), Rough Music (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2002), and The Post-Rapture Diner: New and Selected Poems (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2008). Her work has been widely anthologized and has appeared in numerous journals and magazines, including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and Poetry. Barresi is a professor of English at California State University, Northridge, where she teaches creative writing and literature. She has also taught at the University of Iowa, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Barresi is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She lives in Los Angeles, California.
