Derek Slaughter is an American politician who currently serves as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He was first elected to the House in 2018. Slaughter was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1981. He attended Williamsport Area High School and graduated from Lycoming College in 2003 with a degree in political science. He then attended Widener University School of Law, graduating in 2006. Slaughter began his career in politics in 2006, when he was elected to the Williamsport City Council. He served on the council until 2018, when he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Slaughter is a member of the Democratic Party and serves on the House Appropriations, Education, and Gaming Oversight committees. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus. As of 2021, Derek Slaughter's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.

In March of 2019 Slaughter announced he'd be running for mayor as a Democrat. On November 6, 2019 it was announced Slaughter had won the 2019 election for mayor. On January 6, 2020 Slaughter was officially sworn in and assumed office as the mayor of Williamsport.

1999

Slaughter was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He attended Williamsport Area High School where he graduated in 1999. In 2003 Slaughter graduated with a bachelor's degree in Information Science and Technology and a minor in Spanish language. He then attended the University of Maryland, College Park where he obtained a Masters in Education. Slaughter returned to Williamsport where he taught mathematics at Williamsport Area High School and the Pennsylvania College of Technology. He also coached the girls high school basketball from 2007 until 2016. Slaughter continued to teach high school and college courses throughout his campaign for mayor.
