2020

In May 2020 Messing retweeted a story attacking Tara Reade for stealing from a non-profit. After intense backlash over it she later deleted it. Reade is a former staffer of then Senator Joe Biden who came forward alleging she was sexually assaulted by him during her time working under him.

2019

In August 2019, Messing sent out a tweet calling for a list of supporters attending a fundraising event for Donald Trump to be made public. Trump denounced the tweet, stating that Messing was attempting to create a “blacklist” in an allusion to McCarthyism. Messing’s call to make the list public was condemned by many on both sides of the political aisle.
