Conrad L. Hall was an American cinematographer and film director. He was born in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia, and was raised in California. He began his career as a camera assistant in the 1950s, and went on to become one of the most acclaimed cinematographers in Hollywood. He was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning three for his work on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), American Beauty (1999), and Road to Perdition (2002). He also directed two feature films, Cool Hand Luke (1967) and Fat City (1972). Hall died in 2003 at the age of 77.

They were hired to shoot location footage for several feature films, including's Disney's The Living Desert (1953).
