Chris Carter is an American writer, producer, and director best known for creating the science fiction television series The X-Files. He has also written and produced for other series, including The Lone Gunmen, Millennium, Harsh Realm, and The X-Files spin-off The Lone Gunmen. Carter was born in Bellflower, California, and attended California State University, Long Beach, where he earned a degree in journalism. After college, he worked as a freelance journalist for Surfing Magazine and wrote several screenplays. In 1993, Carter created The X-Files, which ran for nine seasons and spawned two feature films. The show earned him numerous awards, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.
