Coleman was drafted by the Cubs in the 15th round (461st overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. He was called up to the majors for the first time on August 2, 2010. Coleman earned his first major league win on August 23, 2010 on a 9–1 victory against the Washington Nationals. He also recorded his first RBI in the same game.
