Byron Mallott is an American politician who served as the tenth Lieutenant Governor of Alaska from 2014 to 2018. He was born on April 6, 1943 in Yakutat, Alaska. He is of Tlingit and Tsimshian descent. Mallott attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1965. He then attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Alaska Native studies in 1975. Mallott began his political career in the 1970s, when he served as the mayor of Yakutat. He then served as the executive director of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation from 1976 to 1982. He was the executive director of the Alaska Humanities Forum from 1982 to 1990. Mallott was the Democratic nominee for governor of Alaska in 2014, but he withdrew from the race and endorsed the Republican nominee, Bill Walker. Mallott and Walker then ran on a unity ticket, and they were elected as governor and lieutenant governor, respectively. Mallott served as lieutenant governor until 2018, when he resigned due to a scandal. As of 2021, Byron Mallott's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
