Astor Piazzolla was an Argentine tango composer, bandoneon player, and arranger. He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of tango music. He was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and began playing the bandoneon at the age of nine. He studied music with Alberto Ginastera and composition with Antonio Tauriello. He formed his own orchestra in 1955 and began to experiment with the traditional tango form, incorporating elements of jazz and classical music. He wrote over 3,000 pieces of music, including tangos, milongas, waltzes, and other forms of music. He also wrote film scores and collaborated with other musicians, including Astor's Big Band and the Orquesta de Tango de Buenos Aires. He died in 1992 in Buenos Aires.
