Arthur Askey was a British comedian, actor, and writer. He was born on 6 June 1900 in Liverpool, England. He was best known for his radio show, The Arthur Askey Show, which ran from 1940 to 1949. He also appeared in several films, including The Ghost Train (1941), Band Waggon (1940), and The Love Match (1955). Askey began his career as a music hall comedian in the 1920s, and went on to become one of the most popular British comedians of the 1940s and 1950s. He was known for his catchphrases, such as "Hello playmates!" and "I thank you!". Askey was married twice, first to actress Beryl Ingham from 1932 to 1945, and then to actress Doreen Murray from 1945 until his death in 1982. He had two children, a son and a daughter. Askey's net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around £2 million.
