She has also released several solo albums, including her most recent, "The Real Me," in 2017. Savoy was born in Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in a musical family. She began playing the guitar at the age of nine and was soon performing with her family's band, the Savoy Family Band. She attended the University of Virginia, where she studied music and French. In the early 1980s, Savoy and her husband, Marc, formed the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, which has become one of the most influential Cajun bands in the world. The band has released several albums, including "Cajunization" (1985), "Cajunization II" (1987), and "Cajunization III" (1989). In addition to her work with the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, Savoy has released several solo albums, including "The Real Me" (2017), "Black Coffee" (2009), and "Adieu False Heart" (2006). She has also written several books, including "Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People" (2003) and "Cajun Music: Its Origins and Development" (2005). Savoy has been honored with numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album for her work on the album "Adieu False Heart" (2006).
