Anke Wischnewski is a German luger who was born on 5 January, 1978 in Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and a bronze medal in the same event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. She also won a silver medal in the women's singles event at the 2005 FIL World Luge Championships in Oberhof, Germany. Wischnewski began competing in luge in 1991, and made her World Cup debut in 1997. She has won a total of nine World Cup medals, including four gold medals. She retired from competitive luge in 2008. Outside of luge, Wischnewski is a qualified sports teacher and works as a coach for the German luge team. She is also a member of the German Olympic Committee.
