Andy Tennant is an American screenwriter, director, actor, and dancer. He was born on June 15, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for directing films such as Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Hitch (2005), and Fool's Gold (2008). Tennant began his career as a dancer, performing in the musicals Grease and A Chorus Line. He then moved into acting, appearing in the television series The Love Boat and The Facts of Life. In the early 1990s, Tennant began writing and directing television commercials. He then moved into feature films, writing and directing the romantic comedy Ever After (1998). He followed this up with the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002), which was a box office success. Tennant has since directed a number of other films, including Hitch (2005), Fool's Gold (2008), and The Bounty Hunter (2010). He also directed the television series Emily Owens, M.D. (2012-2013). Tennant was born June 15, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Flossmoor, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. His father was Don Tennant, a legendary creative advertising talent with Leo Burnett Agency in Chicago. As a boy, he spent his summers on Old Mission Peninsula in northern Michigan and at Camp Minocqua in northern Wisconsin. He graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1973. He studied theater under John Houseman at University of Southern California.
