Aloys Wobben is a German entrepreneur and founder of Enercon, one of the world's leading manufacturers of wind turbines. He was born on 22 January 1952 in Rastdorf, Germany. Wobben studied electrical engineering at the University of Oldenburg and graduated in 1979. He then worked as a research assistant at the university and developed a prototype of a wind turbine. In 1984, he founded Enercon and developed the first commercial wind turbine. Since then, Enercon has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of wind turbines, with more than 20,000 turbines installed in over 40 countries. Wobben is also a member of the German Advisory Council on the Environment and a member of the German Academy of Technical Sciences.
