Alberto Granado is a renowned Argentine writer, cinematographer, and doctor. He is best known for his travel memoir, The Motorcycle Diaries, which was adapted into a 2004 film of the same name. Granado was born in Hernando, Córdoba, Argentina, on August 8, 1922. He studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires and graduated in 1948. He then worked as a doctor in the leper colony of San Pablo, Peru, and later in Caracas, Venezuela. In 1952, Granado and his friend Ernesto "Che" Guevara embarked on an 8,000-mile journey across South America on a 1939 Norton 500 motorcycle. The journey was documented in Granado's memoir, The Motorcycle Diaries, which was published in 1993. The book was adapted into a 2004 film of the same name, starring Gael García Bernal and Rodrigo de la Serna as Granado and Guevara, respectively. Granado has also worked as a cinematographer, producing documentaries for the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. He has also written several books, including The Other America (1995) and The Great Adventure (1998). Granado is currently retired and lives in Havana, Cuba. He is 97 years old.
