Albert P. Pisano is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and the former dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Pisano was born in 1954 in New York City. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester in 1976 and his master's and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978 and 1981, respectively. Pisano has held faculty positions at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, San Diego, and the University of Michigan. He has also served as the dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, from 2011 to 2018. Pisano's research focuses on the design and control of mechatronic systems, with applications in robotics, medical devices, and manufacturing. He has published more than 200 journal articles and book chapters, and holds more than 20 patents. Pisano is the recipient of numerous awards, including the ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Award, the ASME Design Automation Award, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Early Career Award, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Distinguished Service Award. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
