Timeline
After being brought to the Brooklyn Criminal Court, Beniquez was charged with second-degree murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, and was held without bail. Although he wasn't charged with the murder of Luis Medina, Beniquez was convicted of murdering Daniel Valentine and sentenced to 25 years to life imprisonment on April 7, 1992. This decision was appealed multiple times by Beniquez, but unsuccessfully.
On January 10, 1991, Beniquez invited 23-year-old Daniel Valentine to his apartment in Bushwick on 239 Troutman Street, supposedly for business relating to drugs. For unclear reasons, he then shot Valentine in the chest with his gun. On January 27, while he was outside Hondos in Saint Croix, Beniquez had an argument with two other men which resulted in a shootout. A responding officer, 22-year-old Dexter Mardenborough, was struck in the head by a bullet after arriving on the scene and chasing him around a corner.
Beniquez's first known murder occurred on February 15, 1990, when he shot and killed a man in Puerto Rico. After this, on September 6, he stole a car in Carolina and was engaged in a car chase by officers Jose Bernabe Gonzalez (33) and Pedro Sanchez Lopez (27). He managed to ambush both officers, shooting them down. Beniquez also killed three men in a car in Saint Thomas on November 15. It is also said that he was sought after for two attempted murders in Puerto Rico, but no information is available for them.
After receiving a call from the Puerto Rican authorities on Beniquez's whereabouts, detectives in Brooklyn began searching for him. Officers from the 83rd Precinct also set up stakeouts in various areas of Bushwick. On February 23, Beniquez was arrested at a grocery store on 147 Wilson Avenue, with authorities finding a 9mm Uzi with a 30-round clip on him.
