A.A. Berle was an American lawyer and author who was born on January 29, 1895 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of Adolf Augustus Berle Sr., a prominent lawyer and politician. He attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1918. Berle was a professor at Harvard Law School from 1923 to 1929, and then served as a professor at Columbia Law School from 1929 to 1937. He was a member of the faculty of the New School for Social Research from 1937 to 1941. Berle was a prolific author, writing books on topics such as corporate law, taxation, and public policy. He was also a noted public speaker, and was a frequent guest on television and radio programs. Berle was a member of the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute, and the Council on Foreign Relations. He was also a member of the board of directors of the American Civil Liberties Union. Berle died on December 8, 1971 in New York City. He was 76 years old.
